We should all know by now that we need to stay hydrated with plenty of water in order for our bodies to operate at its best. If you are anything like me you’ve gotten into a habit of carrying your huge jug of water wherever you go. It’s just one of those things that screams “look at me I am healthy and I care about my body.” You might even cut some fresh fruit to infuse with your water.
But what about those days when you can barely make it and you are in desperate need of a pick me up ? Do you grab another cup of coffee or do you sneak down stairs to the office convenience store and purchase a 5 hour energy? Both options might temporarily give you a boost of energy but it will be very short lived. You’ll come crashing down even more tired that before.
The other day when I was visiting Sprouts Farmers Market in Atlanta Georgia, I met a guy who told me all that he is doing to help his wife ditch the processed foods, saturated fats, and added sugars. He said that he mixed chia seeds with water and a bit of lime juice to make an energy drink as a Mellow Yellow replacement.
Having been a lover of chia seeds for years, I had never heard of this use for them. I went home immediately did some resource and put this theory to test.
- 2 cups of water (coconut water works too for extra potassium)
- 1 tbsp of chia seeds
- The juice if one fresh lemon or line
- Agave if you happened to have any (optional)
I definitely was refreshing. I felt great. Like I always do when I find a new healthy staple. You’ll have to try to see what it does for you and let me know in the comments below
