We are supposed to encourage you all to workout for an hour everyday to get and stay fit. The truth is, no one has time for all that everyday. Can we be real for a moment? It would great if we all could scroll out of bed, enjoy a cup of coffee, skip merrily to the gym and workout for hours before we come home to a nice bubble bath and glass of wine. It’s just not life. Life can be chaotic and fast paced. If you were wondering how much cardio to lose weight is needed, we could tell you one hour is need or we could tell you that all you need is a 20 minute workout and neither answer would be right or wrong.
How Long Should You Workout In A Day to Lose Weight
The answer to the question is different for everyone because weight loss comes when you burn more calories than you consume. In other words, you need to eat less food or burn more calories through working out. You choose. There is no universal quick weight loss magic pill that will solve weight loss problems for all. Sorry…not sorry.
Typically you need to have a 500 calorie deficit per week to lose 1 pound per week. It doesn’t really matter how you split up your workout sessions. You can choose to do an hour workout today and 20 minute workout tomorrow and plan to spend 2 hours at the gym on Saturday. It’s all up to you. Intensity and frequency of your workouts are far more important than duration.
A 20 minute workout that burns a ton of calories is much more effective than a 1 hour workout that is so easy that you barely break a sweat. It is important, however, to remember, that any workout is better than no workout at all. Don’t put too much focus on the length of your workout, instead make it a rule to make each workout a challenging one.
The workout below should take you about 20 minutes to complete. We created it for those who don’t have lots of time but still want to break a sweat.
All you need is a timer and 20 minutes. You can use a dumbbell if you have one but it isn’t necessary.
