They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It just so happen that I am not a huge fan of heavy heavy breakfast foods. I can barely eat a bowl of cereal in the morning. It maybe because my stomach takes a little longer to wake up than the other parts of my body. Who knows!. I do know that fueling your body with the correct things is VITAL to accomplishing your fitnes &/or weight loss goals. So I have found ways to get my breakfast in without putting my body through hell.
I usually make a smoothie for breakfast and have half of a toast or just a half of grapefruit. I found that his is just enought to get a morning workout in and jump start my day. If you are not a breakfast person like myself, you probably skip breakfast without even thinking of it and by the time lunch comes around you are STARVING and you binge. That’s exactly what throws all of your hard work out the window.
Smoothies are the perfect way to fuel your body without weigh it down. I love to put uncooked oats in my smoothie for a litle more substance. I often time add flaxseeds to every smoothie because its such a grate super-food. Flaxseeds are high in fiber and help lower your cholesterol. It can even reduce your risk of heart disease. You can buy it at your local farmers market and save it for months in our cabinets.
I also add protein powder to most of my smoothies since I drink them before and after workouts the protein helps to repair and build strong muscles. My favorite is SUNWARRIOR protein. It’s a vegan plant-based protein powder that doesn’t included all the processed crap that you find in most of the proteins in stores.
Below is the recipe that I used to make my Berry Berry Smoothie but really you can use your favorite berries and make it work. After I drink this I am usually good untill my mid-morning snack (usually a piece of fruit or veggies in a baggie).
I have to mention, I do LOVE egg whites and salmon for breakfast but who has time for that everyday.
For now I’ll save the pancakes, grits, eggs, and all the other mega meals for holidays at my moms.
